Meet Our Veterinarians

Paul Robertson
Dr. Paul Robertson

OWNER & VETERINARIAN

Dr. Paul Robertson believes he was born to be a veterinarian. “I knew that’s what I wanted to do for as long as I can remember,” he says.

Growing up in Oklahoma City, Dr. Robertson enrolled as a Physiology major and Chemistry minor at Oklahoma State University. After earning his undergraduate degree in 1982, he spent the next four years working toward his doctorate in veterinary medicine. He was a member of Phi Zeta and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and received a scholarship for his leadership, scholarship, and clinical proficiency.

Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Robertson volunteered on a dairy farm and with his veterinarian uncle. He worked for over ten years as an associate veterinarian before opening Cobblestone Veterinary Hospital with his wife, Christine, in the Spring of 1997. Dr. Robertson is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners and the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association. His professional veterinary interests include feline medicine and preventative care. The most satisfying part of being a veterinarian, he says, is watching sick or injured animals recover and being a part of their lives.

Dr. Robertson and his wife share their home with two dogs (Cooper and Blue), five cats (Ming Ming, Squatter, Night, Winslow, and Otter), and horses. The couple has two daughters. In his free time, Dr. Robertson enjoys hiking, boating, snorkeling, and traveling.

Dr. Marshall Basham

As of November 2022, Dr. Marshall Basham is our newest veterinarian! He will treat sick animals, perform surgery, and perform wellness exams here at Cobblestone Veterinary Hospital. His favorite part of the job is meeting new people and their pets and helping everyone in the house be healthy and happy! He also likes the challenge of diagnosing and treating sick animals and performing surgery.

Dr. Basham plans to bring a positive personality and team mindset to Cobblestone. His education includes the University of Arkansas (2015) for undergrad and the University of Missouri (2020) for Vet school. Since then, he has had about 2.5 years of experience in the field.

Dr. Basham has two pets: Huck, a 3-year-old mixed-breed dog, and Mango, a 7-month-old orange cat. His hobbies include kayaking, fishing, riding bikes, and spending time with family.

Dr. VanAnrooy brings over four decades of veterinary expertise, having owned and operated Edwardsville Pet Hospital from 2000 to 2017. Throughout her career, she has also been part of the teams at Stonegate Animal Hospital, Webster Groves Animal Hospital in St. Louis, and Northgate Animal Hospital in Southern Illinois.

With a passion for cutting-edge treatments, Dr. VanAnrooy is skilled in therapy laser, stem cell therapy, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff, and shares her home with three German Shepherds, five cats, and four Arabian horses.

Dr. Kendal Carroll
VETERINARIAN

Originally from a small town in Ontario, Canada, Dr. Kendal Carroll is excited to begin her veterinary journey in the area after graduating from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2025. She’s been dreaming of becoming a vet since she was a little girl, and now she’s living that dream—helping pets stay happy and healthy every day.

Dr. Carroll currently has one giant fluffball at home—a 1.5-year-old Great Pyrenees who keeps life interesting—and she’s always on the lookout for more furry friends to add to the family. When she’s not at the clinic, you can find her spending time with her husband, Clayton, enjoying the outdoors, going on long walks, horseback riding, or tackling a new sourdough recipe (with varying degrees of success!).

Dr. Maik
Dr. Rachel Maik
VETERINARIAN

Dr. Maik is the newest member of the Cobblestone team but has spent many years in the veterinary field and is a native of the area – being born and raised in Republic, MO.

Dr. Maik earned her undergraduate degree (Microbiology, BA, 2007) and veterinary degree (DVM, 2011) both from the University of Missouri – Columbia. She spent a couple years practicing in the state of Missouri before moving to Florida for the last 12 years where she met and married her husband, Chad. They have a rambunctious little toddler at home that keeps them on their toes. Family and a desire to experience the seasons again brings Dr. Maik and her family back to Missouri where they plan to raise their daughter and try to keep her from being completely spoiled by her grandparents.

Dr. Maik enjoys all aspects of private practice and has always loved that with veterinary medicine, every day is unique. She particularly enjoys internal medicine case management and oral surgery/ dentistry. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and loves attending the VMX East Coast veterinary conference to learn about the latest new ideas and products to share with her clients and patients. In her free time, she can be found baking, reading, hiking, biking, or continuing her lifelong goal of learning to play the violin. Dr. Maik currently has one orange tabby cat named Neo who, at 18 years of age, is still king of the house.

Meet Our Hospital Cats

Riff-Raff
Riffy (full name Riff-Raff) is our beloved tabby office cat and has been part of the Cobblestone family since October 2015. She was originally found at an apartment complex, where she had a litter of kittens. After her kittens were successfully rehomed, Riffy came to us for a check-up and was discovered to have a broken leg. Dr. Robertson got her all fixed up, and she’s been living her best indoor life ever since.

These days, Riffy’s main medical concern is… being a little chubby. She’s been on a weight-loss diet for over four years now—no weight lost, but perfectly maintained (so we’re calling that a win).

Riffy is our sassy girl and isn’t shy about letting you know if she doesn’t want to be messed with. She’s also very good at announcing when she’s hungry—or when she simply wants attention. Whether she’s supervising from the counter or demanding snacks, Riffy runs the clinic and knows it.

Foldie
Foldie came to us in 2019 after Dr. Robertson inherited a feral cat colony from a client. While he was able to successfully rehome all of the others, Foldie made it clear that she wasn’t going anywhere—and she’s been part of our clinic family ever since.

She gets her name from her folded ear. While we’re not entirely sure how it happened, we believe it was likely caused by a severe ear infection from her time living feral. When Foldie first arrived, she was extremely shy and fearful, and it took a long time for her to come out of her shell. Through patience, consistency, and a lot of trust-building, Dr. Robertson worked closely with her to help her feel safe.

Around 2025, Foldie surprised us all by finally venturing up front to greet clients—a huge milestone for such a timid girl. While she’s still skittish, Foldie is very talkative and has no problem making her opinions known. One thing she is absolutely not shy about? Demanding her Churu paste every single morning.

Crunchy
Crunchy came to us in 2023 after being dumped in our trash area with a broken pelvis. After getting him healed up, Dr. Robertson later had to amputate his tail due to ongoing issues with keeping himself clean. Despite everything he’s been through, Crunchy never lost his gentle spirit.

In 2025, Crunchy developed a severe eye infection that we were unable to clear, and Dr. Robertson decided to remove his left eye. Since then, Crunchy has fully embraced his retirement era and is living his absolute best life with us at the clinic.

Crunchy loves helping care for new kittens when they come in, has an amazing loud purr, and truly has never met an enemy. He’s one of the kindest souls you’ll ever meet—and a reminder of just how resilient cats can be.
